Kadie Salmon

The story is often seen as a source of power and knowledge that functions through manipulation, subversion and recognition. The nocturnal misadventures of the romance novel as a tool to satisfy sexual desire is the context of Kadie Salmon’s contribution to Big Case. In a series of late night photographs, particular details of Lauriston’s ornamental gardens are emphasised, taking on a temporary symbolism. The over-stated grandeur of the castle provides the ideal backdrop for an over-blown romance, well rehearsed and recited. Alluding to the contrived narrative of a fashion shoot, the scenario is highly constructed. The interaction of her characters is disconnected, their disinterest in their dramatic situation is set in marked contrast to the charged things that surround them, and the supposed clues they hold.

Kadie Salmon is currently studying towards the MFA in Sculpture at Edinburgh College of Art Through the use of sets, composition, props and lighting, she construct narratives that are concluded and exhibited in the form of photography.
